About the Sub-Committee::
The Students' Welfare Subcommittee of Jatindra Rajendra Mahavidyalaya is typically dedicated to addressing and enhancing the well-being of the student body. This committee focuses on various aspects such as health, safety, counselling, financial aid, and overall quality of student life. Orientation programmes for new students are also carried out by the Sub-Committee.
Student welfare is the cornerstone of the college's mission as J. R. Mahavidyalaya serves a predominantly rural, agrarian, and economically challenged students (with a significant population of minority and first-generation female learners).
Objectives::
The primary objectives of student
welfare initiatives at JRM are centred on equity, inclusion,
and empowerment:
- Promote Inclusivity: Ensure
equal access to higher education for students from marginalized backgrounds,
including SC, ST, OBC, and Minority communities.
- Reduce Dropout Rates:
Provide institutional and governmental financial relief to students facing
severe economic hardships.
- Empower Female Students:
Create a safe, comfortable, and supportive environment to encourage higher
education among local rural girls.
- Facilitate Holistic Development: :
Balance academic learning with co-curricular, extra-curricular, sports,
and cultural activities to build well-rounded personalities.
Key Functions::
The welfare and support systems
carry out several practical functions to ease the student experience:
- Financial Aid & Scholarship
Processing: Facilitating government schemes like Kanyashree,
Aikyashree, Swami Vivekananda Merit-cum-Means (SVMCM), OASIS, and the West
Bengal Student Credit Card.
- Institutional Financial Support:
Providing yearly institutional financial support from the college's own
welfare fund, particularly prioritizing underserved demographics (like ST
category students) to cover textbooks and commute costs.
- Career Guidance & Placement Support:
Conducting workshops on resume writing, basic computer literacy, and
interview prep specifically tailored to help rural youth enter the modern job
market.
- Managing Campus Amenities :
Overseeing essential student areas like the spacious Girls' Common Room
(equipped with indoor games and sanitary vending machines) and the affordable
student canteen.
Key Responsibilities::
To keep the campus safe and
supportive, the committee and its allied bodies maintain the following
responsibilities:
- Grievance Redressal: Serving
as a reliable platform where students can raise academic, infrastructural, or
personal grievances
- Strict Anti-Ragging Monitoring:
Working closely with the Discipline and Anti-Ragging Cell to maintain a
zero-tolerance policy on ragging or harassment.
- Health and Wellness:
Coordinating health check-ups as well as provide emotional and psychological
support through counselling.
- Liaison with Teachers' Council :
: Meeting regularly with departmental heads and the Teachers' Council to
identify and organize remedial classes for slow learners or students needing
special academic attention.
